Gallery Underground in January presents, in our Focus Gallery, “New Beginnings,” an all-member, all-media show of works intended to spark joy in the new year. Member artists were asked to create works that represented their optimism that the coming year will be an eventual return to the people, places and things they cherish and have been missing in 2020. In our Main Gallery are new works by our members in all themes, in media including oil, acrylic, pastel, watermedia, sculpture, glass, ceramics, wood and metalwork.
Gallery Underground is pleased to announce the accepted entries to our juried show “Dreams and Nightmares.” 2020 was a scary year. But from this comes compelling artwork that also highlights hope. From February 1 – 26, 2021, this fascinating all-media national juried exhibition will be mounted on the walls of the Focus Gallery. Artists were tasked with interpreting the theme, from the beautiful and sublime to the dark and twisted. Juried by DC sculptor Emily Francisco, the works chosen from around the country range from dreamy and figurative abstracts and humorous daydreams, to eerie landscapes and depictions of terrifying, living-nightmare psychotic episodes. There will be no opening reception due to Covid-19 guidelines, but the work can be seen on the walls of the gallery from 10am-6pm Monday through Friday. Free one-hour parking in Crystal City Shops parking garages; accessible by metro’s Crystal City stop on the Blue Line.
